I started rendering landscapes this week in watercolor, or should i say returend back valueing land scapes.  This landscape is a re-due from the disaster I created on Wednesday…The last painting I did looked like I left it out in the rain for several days and then a bird pooped on it.  In short, the last painting was insufficient to be called art work.

anyway....here it is, the re-do.  land

It’s Tuesday about 530 in the morning about to head back to work after a day off from the grindstone…Had a nice day off yesterday with my wife went fishing...also spent it with family. But now I'm getting ready to go to work at the studio. By the way here are my watercolor value studies I did on Saturday.

It’s been a few days since I updated my blog... Sorry just learning a new skill set. My learning moved from value studies to watercolor for a little while; here is a sample of my first finished piece.  This new direction has given me more insight about direct painting, but only as it pertains to the watercolor medium.  It’s a challenge but I’m enjoying it... but I’ve got to pull the lead out in order to be successful at this.

Some people have "second chances" as for me it's more like my 10th on this drawing but who's counting? I was really sucking it up yesterday and most of today... but here is.

While doing these value studies every time I would think that I was finished, my teacher would tell me to take a step back and look at it with a fresh pair of eyes, so I did...Sure enough, it wasn’t even close to finish. On and on this process would happen and every time, the same conclusion ...It still could be better. I am now understanding the truth behind  the phrase: “DON’T SETTLE IT COULD BE BETTER”

Along with that, there is so much value in value studies. Taking time to change myself as an artist I believe is paying off.... not in money, but in knowledge.  I am beginning to gain a deeper understanding of how subtle and intricate the human figure really is. There is so much to learn, its overwhelming at times .....I feel like Alice in wonderland falling down a rabbit hole of information…”Believe me that rabbit hole is bottomless”. My eyes are opening up to more possibilities and new directions I can go with my art.

here is my value study, It was done in Corel painter X, with the airbrush tool.
